Hometown Girl Makes History with NASA
-By Proud Aunt, Roxie Cibuzar

Young people realizing their dreams is one of the reasons the Nisswa Women’s Club exists. We have a recent real-life example of this in Branelle Cibuzar Rodriguez. She was a recipient of a NWC scholarship when we had no idea how far her dreams would take her.
A Brainerd High School graduate, she went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering and then applied to NASA’s internship program. On her eighth application, she was accepted and moved to Houston, Texas, to fulfill her girlhood dream of sending astronauts into space.
Now 44, she has served as the program manager for the Artemis II Spacecraft. The launch took place at the Kennedy Space Center on April 1, 2026. A ten-day mission took four astronauts around the moon and back to Earth. Branelle’s team made sure those astronauts had all the life support they needed on the spaceship. She was in the middle of making history because she was willing to work long hours.

Our club meets on the third Thursday of each month for lunch and to hear a speaker on topics we care about. We must not forget that we are also a philanthropic organization, as we contribute financially to students pursuing further educational opportunities.

May Branelle’s story inspire us to continue our participation in this unique club. In a small way, we are a part of her story.
